My Daily Routine For Winning Government Contracts
Jul 19, 2024Hey everyone! Here’s my 7-minute daily routine for winning government contracts.
Step 1: Start with SAM.gov
First, open your computer and go to sam.gov. This is your primary source for contract opportunities.
Step 2: Manage Your Leads
You need a system to manage your leads. Daily updates can generate significant results over time. I use GovClose, a system I built after retiring from the Air Force. You can use any CRM or even a simple spreadsheet to track your opportunities.
Step 3: Search for Opportunities
Go back to SAM.gov, select "Contract Opportunities," and search for "Sources Sought." This helps identify potential leads. Today, let’s use the NAICS code 611430 for training opportunities. Look for relevant leads, read through them briefly, and add suitable ones to your system.
Step 4: Update Your CRM
Make sure you record the source, contact information, due dates, and opportunity names in your CRM or spreadsheet. This helps keep track of all important details.
Step 5: Follow Up on Existing Leads
Review the leads you’re already working on. For sources sought, ensure you've emailed the point of contact, submitted necessary information, and requested follow-up meetings if possible. This step is crucial to not missing any important solicitations.
Step 6: Check for Solicitations
After submitting responses to sources sought, monitor SAM.gov for corresponding solicitations. Use the same NAICS code and adjust the date range to find these opportunities. When you find a relevant solicitation, update your CRM with the due date and start preparing your proposal.
Summary
- Start your day on SAM.gov.
- Search for new sources sought.
- Add relevant opportunities to your CRM or spreadsheet.
- Follow up on existing leads.
- Check for new solicitations.
Doing this routine daily doesn’t take much time but can significantly improve your chances of winning government contracts. For more tips and training on federal sales, check out our certification program at GovClose.com.
